Things happened for a reason & whether or not he wanted to deal with said things was left up to only him. Manners these days were wasted, was the thought process currently being had. To pull Hotaru from her classmates just because they were spending time was not ideal of Kai in the first place; to be on that level of clingy was unlike him. Make no mistake, the want for her attention was there. In fact, it was more prominent than it has ever been with ANYONE else; that willingness to give attention was given back to him (an odd concept in the beginning for sure). & it is with that thought process, that Kai held within him an air of CONFIDENCE that patience will be rewarded.
So, if that meant he had to sit in on conversations that soon became WHITE NOISE in his head, if it made her smile, made her day just a bit better, then he’d sit through it (what truly was a few minutes? This better not stretch past thirty). That being said, although the conversations were fading into the background, senses ALWAYS stayed alert. Kai couldn’t truly say he could PINPOINT where, in that instance, was the thing that made Hotaru uncomfortable but, it was there. It was present & he didn’t like it.
Distance had to be made & hands had to be kept to themselves lest he was meant to BREAK them (something that was of no consequence to him). With enough finesse & maneuvering, his body shifted itself to, not necessarily close the gap, but to make sure that (without saying a word) the proclamation of claim was ever present–you know, to relinquish any doubts for reasons. The hand was swatted away effortlessly & before fuss was made, a lone eye turned SHARPLY towards Sugawara. The words just one glace was enough to get the message across:

They mattered very little; whatever they had to say mattered very little. All he gave a shred of a shit about was her. ❛ You looked uncomfortable; you tensed up & tried to move. Wanna go? ❜
